What Happens During a Repair Visit
- Book. Call or text 778-892-5119. Tell us what the fireplace is doing and send a photo of the rating label if you can reach it safely. For a condo, mention parking and building access.
- Diagnose. David runs the fireplace through its start-up sequence and tests the parts involved: pilot assembly, thermocouple or thermopile, igniter, receiver, gas valve and blower.
- Price and approve. He explains what failed and gives you the repair price. Nothing is replaced until you say yes. If a part has to be ordered, you get its price and the return date first.
- Repair and test. After the repair he tests the fireplace and shows you that it runs properly. The repair carries a 1-year parts and labour guarantee.

Condos, Strata and Older Vancouver Homes

- Condo or strata suite: visitor parking, elevator booking and any contractor paperwork the building needs. Tell us if the exterior vent is on common property.
- Character home with an older insert: the rating label photo and any past service records. Mention changes to the opening, surround or vent.
- Townhome or laneway home: where the fireplace and outside vent are, plus gates, pets or other access notes.
Smell Gas or CO Alarm? Do This First
If you smell gas: leave the building now. Don’t use light switches, flames or a phone inside. From outside, call FortisBC at 1-800-663-9911 or 911 and follow FortisBC’s gas-leak instructions.
If a CO alarm sounds: get everyone into fresh air and call 911 from outside. Don’t go back in to switch off the fireplace or open windows. Health Canada’s CO guidance explains what to do next.

Is it safe to keep relighting a pilot that keeps going out?
No. A pilot that keeps going out usually points to a worn thermocouple or thermopile, a dirty pilot assembly, or a gas valve problem. Relighting it again and again doesn’t fix the cause. Book a diagnosis instead.
Why does my gas fireplace turn off after a few minutes?
Sometimes it is just the thermostat or remote reaching its set temperature. If it shuts off before the room warms up, the cause is usually flame sensing, the control or venting. Our guide on a fireplace that turns off after a few minutes explains what to note before the visit.
Do you repair fireplaces in condos and strata buildings?
Yes. Let us know about parking, elevator booking and any contractor paperwork the building needs. If the vent is on common property, check with your strata manager before the visit.
How long does a fireplace repair take?

Should I repair my old fireplace or replace it?
Age alone doesn’t decide it. If parts are still available and the firebox and venting are in good condition, a repair usually costs far less than a new fireplace. David will tell you honestly when replacement makes more sense.
